Miley Cyrus has had many striking hairstyles over the years, from her short pixie crop to her trademark space buns.

Now, she’s had a freshen up of one of her most divisive styles: the mullet.

But, Cyrus hasn’t been scissor-happy herself at home without any professional guidance; celebrity hairdresser Sally Hershberger has been offering virtual appointments, with her latest client being Cyrus’ mother, Tish.

Hershberger revealed that she guided her through the at-home cut, and was clearly impressed with the results, captioning the post, “I trained Tish well”.

Many of us might be eager to take our haircuts into our own hands at the moment. But, in general, our advice–and that of the hair industry professionals–is to leave the scissors well alone and wait until salons re-open.

However, for those of us with longer hair not necessarily concerned with the shape of our style, but the condition, influential hairstylist Zoë Irwin recommends a DIY trim that others wouldn't even notice.

"I call this 'the invisible haircut'," Irwin tells BAZAAR, describing a cut you can do at home.

"This is a technique to manage and your split ends only, so you are not damaging the shape of your haircut, but you are stopping the split from travelling up the hair shaft and getting worse – so it’s perfect for these current times."
