We all know that coffee is a go-to fix for early mornings where we’re still half asleep and in need of a pick-me-up. Although caffeine can shake us out of the 3 hours of sleep we had, it also comes with several harmful effects such as high blood pressure, severe migraines and insomnia. You might want to put down your cuppa before the list gets any longer. Replace your brew with these rejuvenating drinks and start the New Year right.

Detoxifying: Green juice

In efforts to drink less coffee this year I have been starting each morning with a green power juice. 🍃🍋🍊🍍Today's mix was blood orange, ginger, lemon, pineapple, spinach, and @amazinggrass green #superfood. PSA: you don't always need some fancy shmancy juicer to get vitamins and minerals in your body. All you really need is a high speed blender, fruits, veggies, water, and ice. Yes, juicers are a great investment and provide incredible benefits, however if you are still on the fence about getting one then why not try using something you probably already have? Not everyone has the funds to drop on expensive juicers or the time required to make a cold pressed juice in the morning. Let alone the storage space! That doesn't mean you can't improvise. If you need a quick fix of greens in the morning, try making juice in your high speed blender. High speed being key here (Blendtec, Vitamix, Ninja, etc). Sure I would love to purchase a fancy juicer one day, but for now my @blendtec will do just fine! #usewhatyougot #motivationmonday #plantpower #detox #wellness #eatrealfood #greenjuice #juice #healthychoices

After one too many fried goodies and calorie-filled tidbits, your body needs a good cleanse. Green juices may look a little intimidating but they come with great health benefits. They rid your body of all toxins and leave you feeling purged of all those sinful treats. Start your cleanse by trying the recipe below:

  • 2cm fresh turmeric
  • 4 carrots
  • 1cm fresh ginger
  • 1 orange
  • ½ lemon
  • 3 stalks celery

Brighten skin: Lemon water

Don’t we all envy the clear and glowing skins of models and celebrities? Who knew supple skin could be easily achieved with just a few slices of lemon in your water! Lemon contains Vitamin C which revitalises the skin and helps fight damages caused by free radicals. It also keeps you looking youthful as it produces collagen that smooth out fine lines.

Boost energy: Coconut water

Not only does coconut make you feel like you’re in tropical heaven, it’s your perfect caffeine replacement. Coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage that contains minerals needed for your body to maintain its vitality and give you that extra boost. Ditch the coffee, throw out your energy drinks and stock your fridge with these babies.

Hangover cure: Ginger tea

Regretting your life choices the next morning after a liquor-filled night— haven’t we all been there? It’s too bad we can’t have a wild night out without it biting us in the butt. However, sipping on ginger tea can cure nausea and burn off any alcohol left in your body. No more spending the day under the sheets feeling like death. Or maybe you should try going on an alcohol fast. Just kidding!

Lose weight: Green tea

A cup a day, keeps the pounds away. Known to be the healthiest beverage on the planet, green tea contains antioxidants which can increase fat burning and help in weight loss. Of course weight loss requires a healthy diet and an exercise routine, but brewing this green potion helps to elevate your metabolic rate which helps in shredding body fat.
