Do you think you get opportunities now that you would not have gotten when you were younger?
Definitely. Back then, I pretty much had to do the bidding of whoever hired me. Now, I get to choose who I want to work with, how I’d like to present myself; and pretty much be truly me. It is something that I didn’t have the freedom to do before.
What is the bravest decision you’ve ever made?
Quitting radio. I had been doing it for 14 years. It was a very privileged position to be in and I really enjoy it, but I felt enslaved by it. So it took me a while to make that decision, even though I consider myself to be a strong, focused person. I finally realised living life by my own rules is more important.
If age is an attitude, how do you stay young?
You do this by always being curious and open. When you stop learning, and when you lose curiosity, that’s when you start to age.
How does Advanced Génifique fit into your skincare routine?
It’s pretty much the serum that I use after I wash my face and before I apply my moisturiser. It’s the first thing that touches my cleansed skin for optimum absorption.
After being exposed to so many different cultures on all your travels, has your perception of beauty changed?
I think every culture has their own idea of beauty. For instance, the Kayan women idolise long necks and wear neck rings to lengthen them. No matter the societal standards, I’ve come to realise that bright, honest eyes and clear skin are the epitome of beauty in most cultures. I personally agree.

Do you enjoy life now more than you did 10 years ago?
I just know myself a lot better. In this era of my life, you feel like you bloom and grow in this special kind of way. It’s really about my mindset.
What’s the bravest decision you have ever made?
It was when I decided to go from a full-time job to working for myself. And the reason I think it’s the bravest is because it was super-naive. I had no plan. I just knew that I needed to kind of take that path and I have never regretted that decision.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
It is to care less about what people think of me. When you’re young, you feel the pull of pleasing people. So to my younger self, I would say: “You do not need to please everyone to get ahead in life.”
What is your most important goal in life right now?

What I’ve always done is mix the serum with my creams to give them a boost; it also helps with absorption. I don’t want more than two or three steps to my skincare so this helps me make it more concise.
