Did you know that besides being the hue of fiery passion and desire, the colour red represents universal brotherhood and equality of man as well? That equality was well represented on Sunday when we spotted it on the lips of not one, but three of our homegrown talents. Seen on Stefanie Sun, Corinne May and Kit Chan, who performed a medley of heartwarming-ly familiar National Day tunes, we couldn’t take our eyes off their impeccable makeup and flawless red lips.

So whether you’re a pro at getting that perfect red pout or a novice looking to get schooled in the ways of a beauty classic, here are our recommendations to help you carry that SG50 fervour right into the rest of the year.

Sheer Red

Red lipstick beginners will appreciate Burberry Kisses in Military Red, $45, for its sheer coverage and dewy luster – all thanks to its blend of satin-finish pigments and shiny polymers.

True Red

Dubbed as “your everyday lipstick”, Rouge Coco in No. 444 Gabrielle, $48, is a perfect combination of vibrant pigments and long-lasting hydration. We love that it doesn’t slide nor feather even though it contains nourishing waxes that care for your lips.

Matte Red

One slick of YSL Beauté Rouge Pur Couture in No. 1 Le Rouge, $49, gives full coverage in a soft matte finish. A mixture of micro-pigments and crystalline waxes equals high-intensity colour plus a creamy glide-on texture. We totally approve!
