BAZAAR Exclusive: Jisoo On The New Cartier Trinity Collection

The Blackpink star shares her experience shooting the campaign with fellow A-list ambassadors and her favourite styles from the collection.

One does not reach icon-hood overnight; it has to be earned, like Cartier’s Trinity, which spent a century living and breathing as a symbol of infinite love—romantic, familial, friendship—to get there. The Trinity—three round intertwining bands in platinum, yellow and rose gold—was created in 1924, and given a new cushion shape to commemorate its 100th birthday in a stunning campaign.

Besides this grand dame of a ring, Cartier also showcased other new jewellery designs that were represented by the House’s ambassadors, namely Jackson Wang, Yara Shahidi, Paul Mescal, Labrinth, and Jisoo of Blackpink. Here, Jisoo tells Harper’s BAZAAR what the Trinity collection means to her.

Many have assigned meaning to the three Trinity bands; what do they represent for you?

For me, Trinity is more than just a simple meaning; it defines eternal love in various ways. I love how it represents different facets of what I value the most in life.

What do you think makes a piece stand the test of time?

Elegance, yet strong and powerful design. Not simply because it is pretty, but also because the meaning of the design itself will have long-lasting power.

It’s been said that Trinity is like a Madeleine de Proust, what memory does it bring for you?

The first memory of seeing the Trinity is a moment that I will never forget; it led to the idea of a Parisian sense of chic and classic attitude.

What was it like working alongside this group of ambassadors for the making of the campaign?

It was like a natural choreography; everyone brought their different beauty and talents together. The sense of warm understanding and synchronicity among the ambassadors really allowed me to enjoy the shoot. As we all got together for this shoot, it also matched with the meaning of Trinity, which made it even more meaningful.

How do you celebrate love and diversity in your life?

It’s definitely when I’m on stage, communicating and sharing energy with my fans. That is the happiest way for me.

How do you wear your Trinity?

I wear it in different ways. I usually layer the classic Trinity. On the occasion when I want to make a point, I wear the ring with pavéd diamonds. It’s mesmerising to see how well it matches with any style.

The new Trinity has reinvented itself by shifting its shape entirely, how do you relate to this ability to reinvent yourself?

I’m not afraid of challenges, so I try a lot of new things, which not only teach me many life lessons but also provide more opportunities for me to grow.

Name a creation, project or a piece that you’ve been involved with that you hope will celebrate a 100th anniversary?

It is hard to choose just one, but I wish everyone can remember and love Blackpink’s music along with my first solo album [ME], and all the performances and films that I took part in, as much as they remember and love the Trinity.

What makes an icon an icon?

Behind every icon, there is a story that lasts forever; it’s fascinating to see how their stories and styles can influence countless generations. I think the power for one to be remembered from one generation to the next is to have its own know-how and to be witty in any field.
