Is there such a thing as an eventful red carpet if Billy Porter is not on it? We think not. Case in point: The Pose star attended the Critics’ Choice Awards last night, dressed in a two-tone celadon-and-evergreen jumpsuit by Hogan McLaughlin. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

“Mr. Porter is someone who continues to redefine red carpet expectations, which is why it’s such an honor to collaborate with him and his team on this big night,” the brand’s Instagram account read. “The piece takes inspiration from another boundary-pushing artist, #DavidBowie, updating the 70s aesthetic with the Hogan McLaughlin label’s minimalist, architectural, and high-impact approach to fashion.”

This is not the first time that the 50-year-old actor has skirted the line between masculine and feminine tropes, wearing a tuxedo top with a full-length skirt at 90th Academy Awards, a white suit with a feathered cape at the recent Golden Globe Awards, and an embroidered linen suit with a cape that featured hot-pink lining at last year’s Oscars ceremony. In last night’s instance, Porter eschewed the suit top altogether, instead opting for a shoulder-less neckline, highlighting faux butterfly tattoos and a big silver necklace by jeweler Lynn Ban.
Porter also wore white custom-made platform Coach boots—a clear nod to Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust persona, which pioneered menswear in the ’70s, influencing subsequent generations to play up the drama and have fashion with fashion. And Porter, for all intents and purposes, has clearly taken on that illustrious torch.
