Café à la Mode: EIC Kenneth Goh With French Accessory Designer Amélie Pichard

The spirited designer talks her baguette-inspired bag, playing on stereotypes and sustainable practices

In this episode of Café à la Mode, our Editor-in-Chief Kenneth Goh meets quirky accessory designer Amélie Pichard at her first store, Chez Pichard, in Paris’s Rue de Lappe. They chat about the story behind the designer's Parisienne-obsessed, baguette-inspired Michard bag; her alternative style, playing on stereotypes and breaking conventions, as well as her motto for the decade as they get comfortable on a soft plush bed in the middle of the store—a space that feels like home.

Watch as Amélie shares her insights on fashion and takes us through her wonderful collection that boasts sustainable practices and handmade pieces, before being put to the test!

Launched in 2011, Amélie's eponymous label is imbued with the French spirit, kitsch sensibilities, and a clever sense of humour. Her love and admiration for traditional savoir faire and a chance meeting with Paris’s last female shoemaker Madame Germaine (who made her first shoe collection) led her to accessory making, which she describes as creating objects.

This episode of Café à la Mode was shot before lockdown in Paris.
