CELINE has unveiled its newly revamped boutique on Tokyo’s famed Omotesando Street. At over 700 square metres spanning three storeys, it is one of the brand’s largest stores in the world. To mark the occasion, the French maison flew in its superstar ambassadors, V (Kim Taehyung) of BTS and actor, Park Bo Gum to check out the space. V looked like the epitome of rock-star cool in a denim jacket and leather pants, while Park exuded effortless glamour in all-black topped off with a fringed biker jacket.

In line with the retail vision of artistic director, Hedi Slimane, the boutique features natural materials juxtaposed against sleek Modernist furnishings and cool Brutalist interiors. The ground floor is dedicated to leather goods, haute parfumerie and fine jewellery. Here, the space is done up mostly in chrome metal and polished brass, and accented with antique gold mirrors. The centrepiece is a monumental spiral staircase and a two-storey copper-and-steel sculpture commissioned by Slimane and created by Elaine Cameron-Weir to resemble a strip of shed snakeskin.

The first floor is home to the women’s ready-to-wear collections, as well as a private VIP room decorated with warm mid-century furniture. With floor to ceiling glass windows, this light-filled level looks out onto the leafy streets of Omotesando. The basement floor houses the men’s ready-to-wear collections and is rendered in travertine, black lacquer, and chromed metal and mirrors.

Under Slimane’s stewardship, each CELINE store in the world also functions as its own mini gallery. The CELINE Art Project curates a distinct mix of both commissioned and existing works that are featured prominently in the brand’s retail spaces. Dotted throughout the Tokyo flagship are paintings by Chris Succo and John Isaacs, as well as sculptures by A. Kassen, David Nash, Elizabeth Atterbury and Cameron Platter
