Trooping the Colour—the annual early-summer celebration of the British monarch’s birthday—typically brings out some of the royal family’s most memorable outfits. And over the years, Catherine, Princess of Wales, has reliably delivered on that sartorial expectation with aplomb.

From her many Alexander McQueen coatdresses to some fabulously royal fascinators, whatever Kate has chosen to wear is often one of the most anticipated details from the ceremony.

2011

Just a few months after walking down the aisle at Westminster Abbey in her wedding to Prince William, the then–Duchess of Cambridge made her first-ever appearance at Trooping the Colour in a white Alexander McQueen coatdress.

For her first Trooping the Colour as the Princess of Wales, Kate stepped into the spotlight in a bold emerald-green ensemble. Rather than wearing one of her go-to brands like Alexander McQueen or Catherine Walker, Kate opted for an ornate dress by Singaporean designer Andrew Gn.
