Trooping the Colour—the annual early-summer celebration of the British monarch’s birthday—typically brings out some of the royal family’s most memorable outfits. And over the years, Catherine, Princess of Wales, has reliably delivered on that sartorial expectation with aplomb.
From her many Alexander McQueen coatdresses to some fabulously royal fascinators, whatever Kate has chosen to wear is often one of the most anticipated details from the ceremony.

2011
Just a few months after walking down the aisle at Westminster Abbey in her wedding to Prince William, the then–Duchess of Cambridge made her first-ever appearance at Trooping the Colour in a white Alexander McQueen coatdress.

She coordinated her outfit with a black net hat.
2012
The following year, Kate embraced royal blues in a floral long-sleeved dress from Erdem.
She paired the look with a ribbonlike fascinator and pearl drop earrings.

2013
While pregnant with Prince George, Kate attended the 2013 Trooping the Colour in a baby-pink outfit by Alexander McQueen.
Her coatdress featured a large Peter Pan collar and pearl buttons.
2014
Kate once again opted for Alexander McQueen in 2014, when she wore a silvery-blue brocade skirt suit.
She added a matching floral fascinator from Jane Taylor.
2015
Kate continued the blue theme the following year, in a coatdress with a blue-and-white floral pattern, designed by Catherine Walker.
Her tilted white hat adorned with spiraling feathers made a major fashion statement.
2016
2016’s Trooping the Colour marked the first event attended by Kate and William’s children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Kate looked lovely with her one-year-old daughter in a white coatdress by Alexander McQueen, which she’d previously worn to Charlotte’s christening.
The then-duchess embraced spring with a wide-brim hat adorned with a rose.
2017
Kate looked pretty in pink the following year in another monochromatic look. Her long-sleeved dress hailed from Alexander McQueen, while her fascinator was designed by Jane Taylor.
She also accessorised with diamond drop earrings.
2018
Kate once again matched with Charlotte in a bespoke icy-blue Alexander McQueen dress.
Her light blue fascinator featured a small white floral detail.
2019
Kate looked regal in a butter-yellow Alexander McQueen dress.
Her Philip Treacy hat perfectly matched the rest of her outfit, too.
2022
After a two-year absence from Trooping the Colour—the event was downsized in 2020 and 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic—Kate returned looking refreshed in a white Alexander McQueen coatdress.
She added a pop of colour with her navy blue hat, which coordinated with her sapphire jewellery.
2023
For her first Trooping the Colour as the Princess of Wales, Kate stepped into the spotlight in a bold emerald-green ensemble. Rather than wearing one of her go-to brands like Alexander McQueen or Catherine Walker, Kate opted for an ornate dress by Singaporean designer Andrew Gn.
She also wore a wide-brim hat from Philip Treacy.
