Margot Robbie was a vision in black and white at the premiere of Asteroid City yesterday evening.

The Babylon star joined fellow actors at Alice Tully Hall in New York City, making an entrance in a two-tone minidress by Schiaparelli. The piece, which hails from the fashion house’s spring/summer 2023 couture collection, includes a strapless black peplum bodice with a sweetheart neckline. The velvet dress is cinched at the waist by a thin built-in belt with a gold buckle and layered over a white ruffled miniskirt.

Robbie paired the statement dress with black pumps with an asymmetrical design, and accessorised with a diamond necklace and matching diamond ring. She wore natural makeup, a glossy reddish lip, and a bright red manicure, and had her hair styled in silky waves.

Asteroid City tells the story of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention in an American desert town in 1955, whose itinerary is interrupted by world-changing events. The cast includes Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Adrien Brody, and Maya Hawke.

Robbie has become a much-awaited presence on red carpets. At the Met Gala this year, the Chanel ambassador arrived on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in a re-creation of a black one-shoulder gown from the house’s spring 1993 Haute Couture collection. The flowing piece featured a sweetheart neckline and a dramatic sash that extended over the shoulder and trailed down the front, as well as a see-through corset bodice with boning made of the house’s signature gold-chain-woven straps.

She chose a wildly different look to promote her upcoming film Barbie in April: a playful bubblegum-pink-and-white gingham Prada set, consisting of a wrap miniskirt and a bralette with scalloped black trim across the bust. She accessorised the outfit minimally, with baby-pink peep-toe heels from Christian Louboutin, a gold Chanel anklet, and drop earrings.
