Meghan Markle Might Break Tradition and Give A Speech At Her Royal Wedding

It feels fairly old-fashioned that tradition should dictate only men perform speeches at wedding receptions.

So, we're not surprised that feminist Meghan Markle plans to break away from convention to give her own speech at her nupitials to Prince Harry.

The royal couple will marry in front of around 800 guests in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19 May, and it's being reported the former Suits star is planning an "affectionate" speech in honour of her new husband.

The Sunday Times also claims that the 36-year-old actress will pay thanks to the Queen, her family and friends, and may even throw in a few jokes.

Markle is reportedly ready to "speak" at her reception, particularly if her father Thomas Markle chooses to avoid the spotlight.

Mr Markle is expected to walk the Suits star down the aisle, but may not give a speech in front of hundreds of guests and senior royal family members.

The bride-to-be, who is expected to be honoured with the title of Duchess on her wedding day, also wants to ensure her mother Doria Ragland has equal prominence as her father at her nuptials.

A source told The Sunday Times: "She wants to have the chance to thank her husband and everyone who has supported them. Harry is fully behind her."[/caption]

Harry and Markle's wedding has promised to "reflect their characters and personalities", and will deviate from royal weddings of the past.

This includes the pair scheduling their wedding on a Saturday, whereas royal weddings are typically held during the week. It's also been rumoured the couple have opted for a modern twist on the tradition multi-tiered fruit cake for their reception, in preference of banana cake.

Kensington Palace have yet to confirm who will be Harry's best man, but it's strongly believed to be his older brother Prince William.
