Meghan Markle Reportedly Had a "Secret" Baptism Last Week

In advance of her May 19 wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has joined the Church of England. Several outlets are reporting that she was baptized in a private ceremony at St. James's Palace in London this week.

According to the Daily Mail, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby administered the sacrament, which included holy water from the River Jordan being poured on Markle's head.

Earlier this month, The Sunday Times reported that her christening would be held sometime in March, and that her parents will join her for the ceremony. They do not appear to have made the trip for this ceremony.

Even before her baptism, Markle was already well-versed in the Church's rules. In February, Welby said that her previous divorce from Trevor Engelson is "not a problem." (Markle and Engelson divorced in 2013, citing "irreconcilable differences.")

"We went through that as anyone would who will officiate at a wedding where someone has been separated and a partner is still living," Welby continued, per Sky News.

He also said he's "looking forward" to the big day in Windsor. "The wedding is going to be wonderful," Welby said.
