Sofia Richie Grainge On Her Style Evolution And Latest Collaboration

The It girl speaks to Bazaar.com about her "timeless" style and working with David Yurman

What is it about Sofia Richie Grainge? The model, influencer, and celebrity offspring captivated the internet with her polished beauty aesthetic and timeless wardrobe earlier this year, singlehandedly catapulting the aspirational “quiet luxury” trend to the forefront of fashion forecasts everywhere.

Per her girl-next-door, amateur-esque (yet expertly styled) TikToks, even Richie Grainge seems surprised by her overnight stardom, but that's not to say she's not making the best of it. Now, the 25-year-old can add another title to her bio: jewellery ambassador. Today, Richie Grainge debuted her collaboration with New York City-based jewellery brand David Yurman—which is fitting, she says, as the brand’s “aesthetic embodies everything I’m trying to express in my personal style.”

That suddenly famous personal style didn't just appear out of nowhere. “I’ve definitely honed [it] the last few years," she says. "Naturally, our tastes evolve, but I don’t believe in jumping on a trend just because it’s what everyone else is wearing. I think it’s important to be your own person and recognize when something does or doesn’t feel true to you.”

She looks to the archives for timeless style inspiration. “I really enjoy ‘70s and ‘80s style—the way they expressed themselves and had fun with fashion has been a big source of inspiration for me,” she says.

Her David Yurman collection, all in sculpted cable, includes sleek twisted bangles, hoop earrings, and rings in yellow, rose, and white gold, with and without hand-set pavé diamonds. “While on set for the campaign shoot, I learned that David Yurman’s original twisted cable design was created more than 40 years ago and was inspired by the twisted metal ropes of the Brooklyn Bridge,” she says. “When I learned that David was a sculptor, it all just clicked, like, Aha! You can really see that in the shape, the lines, the level of care and detail in each and every piece.

Of course, she's already thinking up ways to style the pieces. “The collection is incredibly versatile—whether you’re in jeans and a T-shirt or getting dressed up, each piece feels like a statement and effortlessly chic. Something about the smooth, sculptural design just feels and looks so elegant,” she tells Bazaar, adding that she especially loves “the bracelets for stacking.”

So, what comes next after jewellery? An apparel collection, perhaps? Asking for a friend. “Yes!” she eagerly tells Bazaar. “I'm excited to talk more about it! Keep an eye out, it's coming soon.”
