“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the couple said in a statement released to Page Six.

Now, insiders close to the pair are speaking out about what made their relationship crack.

Sources for People revealed that the two actors—who got married in 2015 and share no children together—“have been growing apart for some time now and tried to resolve things, but they are focused on different areas of their lives.”

One insider described their relationship as “passionate, all-encompassing romance, which kept the flames hot for quite a while.” They added, “I have never seen two people so in love, so passionate and so happy. They were always, laughing, lovey-dovey and really happy. There was a magical glow above their heads. They are both real people and down to earth.”

That passion, however, wasn’t sustainable for their marriage. “They definitely love and respect each other but once that initial passion dies down and other areas get in the way, then little differences get bigger,” the source continued.

Another insider for People explained that differences in the actors’ personalities were irreconcilable. “They had differences in how their lives should go forward and it caused stress,” the second source told the outlet. “Sofía is a smart and hardworking girl who thinks of everything that could go wrong before it actually does. Joe is pretty low key, and for years this suited both of them. This has been chipping away for a while.”

The Daily Mail also spoke with sources close to the couple who echoed the same sentiment about their “different attitudes.” However, it was their opposite natures that initially bound them together.

“Joe is a big kid, he loves playing Dungeons & Dragons, he loves wrestling, he is all about video games, superhero movies, comic books, going to concerts, huge NFL fan. He chases fun,” the outlet's insider explained. “He always loves being out and about and just having a good time. And then when it is time to be serious and when it is time to get to work, he turns on that part of himself, but he is always ready to live life to the fullest and go out and just be fun and have fun. This was immediately an attraction for Sofía, who is completely the opposite, sure she loves having a good time and going out, but she is more concerned with the finer things in life, the trips, lavish dinners, being a celebrity, and everything that comes with all of that.”

The source added that their different temperaments began to wear the couple down.

“That was not really seen while they were falling in love, but then the true versions of themselves started showing and they just got annoyed with each other, choosing work over hanging out,” the source continued. “Then bit by bit, they stopped wanting to be together and stopped hanging out because something so little would often trigger an attitude that would bug them, just their attitudes on everything were completely different and something like that is extremely draining for a relationship and they got to the point where it would be a good day and one thing would be said or done and they would just get upset with each other.”

Eventually, Vergara and Manganiello “grew apart.”

“It added up to where now it is easier and more relaxing not being together,” the insider said. “When people say they will be friendly, they will, but the romance part of things is over.”
