Café à la Mode returns! Our Editor-in-Chief Kenneth Goh dropped in at the eclectic salon of Singaporean wunderkind, Andrew Gn, located in the heart of Le Marais in Paris. Over pandan cake and tea, they chat about the celebrated designer’s heritage and childhood, what he misses about Singapore, and living a life less ordinary.
Watch as Andrew shares his fascinating insights on melding Asian culture and modernity in his collections, addressing a new social media audience, and the most career-changing celebrity he has worked with.
Andrew launched his namesake label in 1996, after graduating from Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London and having worked as an assistant to M. Emmanuel Ungaro in Paris. He took on the role of Artistic Director at Balmain in 1997, making him the first Asian designer to head a French house. Today, the Singapore-born designer is a regular fixture on the official Paris Fashion Week calendar. Synonymous with opulence and an East meets West aesthetic, his collections are “a journey through time and space, encapsulated in the most luxurious and exclusive materials”.
