Chrissy Teigen is the Star of Our August 2017 Issue!

It was kind of a eureka moment when we decided to work with Chrissy Teigen for our August issue. Traditionally a month when we celebrate all things Singapore, since it’s our country’s National Day on 9 August, I had to think, what matters most to our readers and Singapore?

Well, I looked to my team for inspiration: What were they talking about? What were they looking at? First, they all had something in their mouths — some were munching on macarons while others were trying the various tidbits from the team’s global travels. Food clearly is a national obsession shared by all. Pakkee Tan, our Senior Digital Writer, squealed, “Guys, you have to try this!” “This” being the sakura macaron from TWG.

Next was the excited clamour around the computer screens as Lip Sync Battle was brought up. Naturally, everyone had something to say about Chrissy Teigen. How she looks is a major talking point, and I must admit she has a body made for sin. I didn’t realise she is so loved by women and that her red carpet looks are a constant source of inspiration and commentary. I’d always thought she was a little crazy with her candid tweets and mad antics on TV.

But clearly, crazy works for today’s millennials. Add the fact that Chrissy is in the midst of working on her second cookbook, and it only made sense to have her on the cover of our food issue. Many negotiations later, I flew up to L.A. to shoot Chrissy in May. I didn’t expect someone so warm and down-to-earth to appear on set. She walked into the studio on time, dressed in a loose kimono, oversized white t-shirt and nude thigh-high suede boots. Barefaced, smiling and nursing a bruised cheek from a fall a few days earlier, many a lesser star would have cancelled the shoot but Chrissy trusted Yu Tsai, our wonderful photographer, to make her look incredible. And just how cool is she on our pages? Honest, too. Chrissy was so candid about life with John — when they have sex; and food, food, food! She’s also funny and brilliant at making fun of herself.

When I confessed that I’m obsessed with Thai food, Chrissy, being part Thai, started chatting to me in broken Thai and before long, we were rolling on the bed laughing. Spontaneous and effervescent, she even brought her daughter Luna on set to share a macaron. This was probably my most fun shoot ever and if you see our video together on BAZAAR’s website, I think you will agree.

We also have our own foodie girls in Singapore, from chef/host/actress Angela May to COMO Shambhala’s resident dietician, Eve Persak. Read what they have to say about their food trails and trials. This month, it’s about a celebration of food, fashion and fun — what better way is there to celebrate Singapore?

So kick up your heels and enjoy what these pages bring you — it’s lip-smackingly yummy.
