I'm sitting in a beautiful cafe in the Île Saint-Louis in Paris, surrounded by very sunburnt Americans. This is the first time—despite coming to Paris for over two decades—that I’m sitting for dinner in a space that has more American accents than on Netflix. It’s rather ironic as I asked the hotel concierge to recommend a local Parisian cafe. But then, it’s late May and Paris is flooded with tourists who came to catch Beyoncé in concert and the French Open. If anything, this encapsulates Paris today—a melting pot of cultures and visitors enthralled by the beauty of this city, yet always searching for a piece of creature comfort. Paris is my creature comfort. I know the city so well yet I am always discovering something new. It’s a bit like editing this magazine that I’ve been with for close to two decades. My journey at BAZAAR is closely linked to my sojourns in the City of Light. And it constantly feeds my soul.

Back on home soil, we have a few surprises in store. Take this month’s cover stars—three dynamic, young and talented singers. Their voices are dramatically different and they resonate with different audiences, but together, they form a new aural discourse for Singapore. Jeffrey Yan delves into their hearts and souls to find out what makes these young multi-hyphenates so relevant today. Read their stories on page 102.

If you get a chance to visit the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), pop by to see the first retrospective exhibition by Singaporean stalwart and revered designer, Andrew Gn. After more than 28 years of successfully starting and growing his eponymous label, he has returned to our shores with an in-depth look at his body of work. “Andrew Gn: Fashioning Singapore and the World” at the ACM showcases more than 100 pieces from his extensive archives, alongside looks from his fall/winter 2023 collection Roots. I had the honour to write a foreword in the new ACM catalogue on Gn, and am excited that he is paving the way forward for many future fashion talents in Singapore. Read Renée Batchelor’s interview with Gn on page 46.

And another first for Singapore was Chanel’s amazing feat of bringing their spring/summer 2023 haute couture collection to Singapore. Over 48 looks came to our shores, housed in a never-before-seen 19th century mansion in the south of Singapore. This was our chance to view up close the intricate details and exquisite savoir faire. See the magic on page 124. Dear reader, before you and I take flight to some other far-flung locale, take a moment to savour the best of what Singapore has to offer. Rely on us to be your creature comfort, with a soupçon of surprises every month. Enjoy!
