I am in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, watching the sail boats on a sunny winter’s day. It’s the perfect spot for me to write my October editor’s letter.

We are well into the fall/winter season and the shops (and fashion websites) are full of new arrivals that make you question why that printed dress you lived in through summer suddenly looks so tired and, well, out of season. So we’ve made the biggest edit of the new season’s fashion offerings, and captured it in a seminal shoot in, and around, Singapore.

As the nation celebrated its jubilee year with fireworks, pyrotechnic displays and whizzing airplanes, we took to the streets and heartlands of Singapore to shoot 38 pages of incredible fashion—we put Saint Laurent in Haji Lane and Calvin Klein in Marina Barrage. It was also a self-referential shoot— taking cues from a shoot we had done around Singapore more than seven years ago. That 12-image spread has since mushroomed to 32 images with different locations and even more landmarks. Back then, we shot Singapore’s heartland neighbourhoods right through to ultra-modern suburbs like Punggol; Marina Bay Sands hadn’t been built yet and Tiong Bahru wasn’t the hipster-ville you see today. This year, we captured more nuances, showcasing cutting-edge fashion in places celebrated more for their food than style. Then, we collaborated with cool, new artists and illustrators, to reinterpret the images with their own artistic take. They blended art into fashion, into architecture—it’s a mind-blowing 38-page extravaganza.

We also brought super starlets like Mick Jagger’s youngest daughter, Georgia May Jagger, to Singapore for our cover shoot this month. She couldn’t have been happier dancing in a makeshift studio with a 10-foot high paper orchid made by the talented paper sculptor, Dawn Koh. “I love the vibe and food in Singapore!” she said without prompting.

We hope you’ll feel our SG love too.
