Bruno Mars’ ’24k Magic’. This musical maestro, with a voice and moves like a modern day Michael Jackson, captures the energy, youth and soul of Motown for the millennial audience.

Now, THIS I did not have any problems with: Nine Inch Nails’ ‘With Teeth’, hands down.

Hands down, ‘Travelling Without Moving’ by Jamiroquai. I still play this album from time to time just to get the rush of childhood memory back again.

It’s probably the only Asian album on this list, but my all-time favourite music album has got to be ‘I Am…’ by J-pop Queen Ayumi Hamasaki. Here’s a piece of trivia: Hamasaki changed the concept of her album cover shoot at the very last minute after being affected by the horrifying events of September 11. She eventually dressed herself up as a “peace muse”—complete with vines, dove and all.

Choosing one album is a tough for a serial playlist creator. I’m talking an ever-evolving list of digital “mixtapes” with tracks by everyone from TLC, Destiny’s Child, N.E.R.D, Whitney and Backstreet Boys, to Frank Ocean, Jhene Aiko, The Internet, Calvin Harris and Sabrina Claudio on loop. But since I have to, it has to be Alicia Keys’ ‘Songs In A Minor’. Her sound and songwriting remain unparalleled even today, and I’ve known every lyric to every song on this iconic album since I was a little girl sitting at the piano with my father.

Adele’s ’21’! Each and every song, is an ode to love, be it in the butterflies-in-the-tummy way or in the most heart wrenching manner.

Okay a lot of people are going to judge me for this, but honestly Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ has got to be one of the greatest albums in recent living memory. Plus, the title song also just appeared on Pitch Perfect 3 and it was all kinds of fabulous.

Even though I am a sucker for live recordings such as John Mayer’s ‘Where the light is’ tour and even new records like Daniel Caesar’s ‘Freudian’, when I think of my favourite album of ALL time, immediately Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ comes to mind. Never has an album speak to me on not just a musical level, but to have the lyrics of every single song resonate with me so deeply… the songs in ‘Blonde’ are beyond just favourites. It’s my soundtrack.

‘A Seat at the Table’ by Solange – The songs are great, yes, but it’s the spirit, message (and aesthetics) of the album that continue to inspire me daily.
