Team BAZAAR Picks The Songs That Get Them Grooving

Do you have some peanut butter to go with these jams?

"What is your jam?" That's the question that was posed to the team as we sat down for our monthly editorial meeting to discuss our blockbuster Fashion and Music issue. It was tough to narrow it down to that one single song, and the result was just as we expected: Individual and totally unique (with a few surprises thrown in!).

Gerald Tan, Associate Fashion News Editor

"I'm the biggest K-pop lover in the entire BAZAAR team, but I've been seeking out lesser known Korean artistes of late. I stumbled across Seora, whose unique voice and sexy urban tunes make for great listening on rainy evenings or late night drives."

"I listen to this song on my usual morning commute. From the beat to the falsetto to the lyrics,  Marvin Gaye's underrated hit, 'Inner City Blues' is the perfect soundtrack to start the daily grind."

Kenneth Goh, Editor-in-Chief

"'Samba da Benção' by Bebel Gilberto is who I have on my iPod constantly whenever I travel. When I hear her voice, it makes me feel comforted and, ironically, at home no matter where I am in the world."

Charmaine Ho, Executive Editor

"OMG, so, so hard! I suppose it'll have to be Dave Matthew Band's 'Crash Into Me'. It's such a naughty, sexual song candy flossed under the sweet trappings of adolescent love. Still gives me the chills to this day."

"I'm so obsessed with Kendrick Lamar's 'Humble' because it's more than another rap song with a catchy beat. His message to look past the superficial, the stereotypes and the status quo, and to stay humble and keep it real is what we could do with a little more these days."

Gracia Phang, Fashion Stylist

"Of Monsters and Men's 'Little Talks' has a certain otherworldly upbeat energy and vibe to it that instantly lifts my mood and provides a little escapism from my surroundings."

Dana Koh, Lifestyle Editor

"I will not deny, DJ Kaled's 'Wild Thoughts' has topped my Spotify since its release (I mean, Rihanna's vocals over that Santana-inspired guitar riff is basically sex)...but so has J Balvin's hypnotic 'Safari', Estelle's breezy 'Love Like Ours', and Eden Prince feat. Cassie's bass-driven 'Obvious'. However, the jam is always Calvin Harris & Disciples' 'How Deep is Your Love' — in the car, at my desk, in the club, and on the beach."

Pakkee Tan, Senior Digital Writer

"Four words: My saddle is waiting."

Annabelle Fernandez, Sub Editor

“I’ve been listening to Solange’s A Seat at the Table on repeat for the past year, and ‘Cranes in the Sky’ is my favourite track for sure. It’s dreamy, soulful and uplifting — and the video, with its evocative costumes, luscious greenery and serene landscapes, is equally haunting and beautiful.”

Syed Zulfadhli, Writer

"I stumbled upon Toro y Moi's 'Girl Like You' while browsing through Instagram, and I fell in love with the heavy ‘80s synth and super chill vibes — it puts me in a good mood, and the song has kept me company on the way home for the past month."

Hanan Haddad, Contributing Digital Writer

"I love the studio version of 'Gravity' but this one from John Mayer's 'Where the Light Is' tour takes the cake for one of the best live performances and songs every written (IMHO). It instantly calms and transports me. No matter what I'm listening to currently, I will never get tired of this one. Listen to it in bed on a rainy day for them extra feels."
