The tomas maier and UNIQLO collaboration is, without a doubt, a match made in fashion heaven. After all, Maier is a designer who is famous for his steadfast attention to detail, quality and craft, while UNIQLO is synonymous with affordable basics that are well-made and well-designed. Before the collection officially launches on 18 May 2018, here’s everything you need to know about the highly anticipated partnership:
1. Maier is a celebrated fashion designer
In 2001, the 61-year-old took over the reins of Bottega Veneta and since then, his name is closely intertwined with the success of the Italian leather goods juggernaut. Maier is noted for transforming the House into one of fashion’s most reputable players. Moreover, his knack for subtle luxury and a logo-less approach to design has won him countless fans and can be seen in the brand’s famous slogan, “When your own initials are enough”. Another fun fact: The designer previously proved his mettle through stints at Guy Laroche, Sonia Rykiel and Hermès.
2. The brand tomas maier is all about stylish staples
Maier founded his eponymous label in 1997 with the aim of providing quality wardrobe essentials that stand the test of time. Focusing on off-duty casuals that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion, Maier’s clothes for his own label also boast a relaxed attitude that is great for all your downtime. Better yet—they also recall the beauty of travel. Today, the tomas maier line is stocked in 100 stores spread across more than 30 countries.
3. The new collection has been carefully engineered to work in many different ways
“Beach attire can turn into lounge wear, casual cover-ups paired with polo shirts can easily be worn in town…this is the concept of my brand,” Maier explained. “Even if bought for a special trip or occasion the customer will soon discover these garments adapt to a year-round life.”
4. Maier’s collaboration with UNIQLO is expected to break new ground
The upcoming collection is touted as the first resort wear collection for UNIQLO—an important milestone for a retailer that is renowned for its expertise in producing highly functional winterwear (hello Heattech!)
5. Off-duty leisure style never looked better
Sporty polo t-shirts and summery dresses are swathed in bright orange and yellow hues inspired by the energy of Florida, while bikinis are decorated with a palm tree motif—a signature of the tomas maier brand.
