Virginie Viard riffed on cinematic glamour for Chanel’s spring/summer 2023 collection, having rewatched the Coco Chanel-costumed film, Last Year at Marienbad. In her confident, capable hands though, glamour looks effortless and unfussy. Viard sent out little dresses, floaty gowns, and relaxed tweed suits in black, white, cream and the softest pastels—all perched on low-heeled, two-toned shoes. Though the silhouettes and palette were restrained, Viard enlivened them with out-of-this-world details: gorgeous embroideries and featherwork, stunning jewels and accessories.
In the latter camp (halfway between bijoux and bag) was a star minaudiere worthy of a movie star— fashioned from the House’s signature black-and-gold, chain-and-leather combo.
