On Dec 16 (Wednesday), the biggest celebrities, models and influencers in China convened at the iconic Shanghai Bund No. 3 to celebrate the launch of Alexander McQueens Spring/Summer 2021 women’s collection as all as the Pre-Autumn/Winter 2021 collection for men, and Harper's BAZAAR Singapore was there to witness the spectacle.

Like most collections showcased this year, creative director Sarah Burton’s debuted her latest offering via a short film — First Light — by renowned English filmmaker, director and screen writer Jonathan Glazer, best known for his films Under The Skin (2013, starring Scarlett Johansson) and Birth (2004, starring Nicole Kidman).

Shot on the river banks of Thames in London, Glazer artfully portrays a beautiful dream state of the models, all decked out in Alexander McQueen.

Burton sums up the collection in her notes: “Shape, silhouette and volume, the beauty of the bare bones of clothing stripped back to its essence — a world charged with emotion and human connection.”

This fashion film was unveiled at the Shanghai event, just a few hours after the global release.

Supermodels like Liu Wen, He Sui, Pei Bei and Kang Sijia graced the revelry in breathtaking creations from the same Spring/ Summer 2021 collection while the strapping male leads such as Kevin Chu and Jason Wu were clothed in the Pre-Autumn/Winter 2021 menswear collection. Liu, in particular, donned a sharp cropped tailored jacket in wool silk contrasted with a suspended, shredded dress in layers of tulle, a stunning contrast of couture and sportswear.

After the film, guests were treated to a night of music and performance by singer Zhao Meng from the popular pop-punk band Twinkle Star, female rapper Vinida Weng and a celebrity DJ set by Cantopop singer Yumiko Cheng, where the beautiful crowd danced the night away, with champagne and cocktails in hand.

The collection is now available for pre-order on alexandermcqueen.com
