Dior Menswear Fall Winter 19 Fashion Week Finale

Another spectacular that is Men’s Fashion Week has come and gone again, and this time the fall/winter 2019 catwalks were buzzing with activity. Hedi Slimane and Kris van Assche made splashy debuts—the former officially launched CELINE into the menswear arena with a club culture-infused showing, while the latter flipped the page to a new chapter at Berluti. Meanwhile, Kim Jones and Virgil Abloh solidified their standings at Dior Men and Louis Vuitton with sophomore outings that delivered plenty of hype. Other designers, such as Dries van Noten and Ermenegildo Zegna’s Alessandro Sartori, reiterated the beauty of tailoring in a men’s wardrobe with collections that transcended space and time. Virgil Abloh dedicated his second offering for the house to Michael Jackson; the legendary artist’s home state, Indiana, included in the flag prints that ran through several looks.

Loewe's first foray into a runway show format for menswear was set against the background of an amber coloured cloth sculpture by Franz Erhard Walther, and featured several nearly hip-high unzipped leather boots.

Did you know Frankenstein was invented by a woman? In the 80’s, Mary Godwin couldn’t lay claim to her brilliance, but Miuccia Prada can. Thus birthed this season’s time-bending, horror-inspired collection.

Pierpaolo Piccioli’s desire to make Valentino real, relatable and affable drove this collection, and the mission of giving streetwear a place on the Valentino runway. Ostrich feathers pinned onto the back of sporty sneakers – reminiscent of the feathered sandals Pierpaolo showed just a few months ago in Paris, in the women’s show.

Silvia Venturini Fendi had a treat in store for Fendi fans – the iconic baguette was made for men for the very first time. In a collaboration with Japanese luggage specialist Porter-Yoshida & Co., the famous bag was reworked in shearling and crocodile among many other fabrications.

Men’s tailoring – an art that holds immense relevance till date, and shown amply by Dries Van Noten this season. This first look is a timeless one, eternally germane and stylish, a declaration without trying to be.
