On a chilly October evening, stars of the entertainment, fashion and sports worlds gathered at Claridge’s Hotel for the Harper’s BAZAAR UK Women of the Year Awards. In the spirit of celebrating the accomplishments of women, Olympic cyclist and four-time gold medalist Laura Trott fittingly took home’s the night’s top prize, following a stellar performance at this year’s Rio Summer Olympics.
HeForShe activist Emma Watson (wearing Dior from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s debut) received this year’s Inspiration award for highlighting feminist issues; actresses Keira Knightley (in No.21), Felicity Jones (in Rosie Assoulin), Olivia Colman and Gillian Anderson claimed prizes for their roles on stage and screen; Grimes won Musician of the Year and Eurythmics frontwoman Annie Lennox was recognized for her philanthropic work.
In the designer categories, Simone Rocha‘s intimate, autobiographical explorations of womanhood and Grace Wales-Bonner’s gender and ethnicity-challenging work were honored. The inimitable Donatella Versace was named Fashion Icon of 2016.
Other notable award recipients included Stella Tennant, for Contribution to British Fashion; Vanessa Redgrave, for British Icon; Malaika Firth, for Model of the Year, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, for Businesswoman of the Year.
