If there was one word to sum up the fashion we saw on the Met Gala 2017 red carpet, it would be "disappointing". The Met's spring 2017 exhibition is dedicated to fashion designer Rei Kawakubo and her revolutionary work at Comme des Garçons, so naturally the theme for the red carpet followed suit. But from the looks of what transpired on the red carpet, it seemed many of the Met’s guests failed to get the memo. Sure, they need not have dressed to theme, but there was none of that brave, anti-establishment spirit that has come to define Kawakubo’s legendary body of work. Instead, all we got were the same melange of gowns that erred too much on the safe side. Considering the fact that this is the Met Gala’s red carpet, a little more danger and sense of adventure would have been nice. Scroll through the gallery above to see who impressed us — and who didn’t.
