Bumpsuit Is The New Maternity Brand Beloved By The Most Stylish Celebs

This year has been grueling, to say the least. But in the midst of all the uncertainty, there have been moments of tremendous happiness. Yes, such a thing existed in 2020, and, for many of us, this came in the form of all the celebrity pregnancies and babies that have flooded our social feeds. From Emily Ratajkowski and Elsa Hosk to Hannah Bronfman and Hilary Rhoda, some of our favorite style setters have posted shots of their growing bellies, beaming in the chicest maternity fashions by Bumpsuit. The brand is the brainchild of Australian model Nicole Trunfio, who welcomed her third child with blues musician Gary Clark Jr. in March.

“2020 has been a really hard year, and it’s beautiful to see so many pregnancies and babies bringing joy in dark times,” Trunfio tells BAZAAR.com. “I also had a baby at the start of quarantine earlier this year, and the silver lining was that I was able to stay home and be fully present with my family.”

The idea for Bumpsuit came out of Trunfio’s frustration with the lack of chic maternity options during her first two pregnancies with her son, Zion, now 5, and her daughter, Gia, now 2. So this time around, she decided to create her own elegant base layer built to last far beyond nine months.

“I wasn’t a big fan of maternitywear; nothing fit quite right, and I wouldn’t want to wear any of it postpartum,” she says. “I had a catsuit that I loved but outgrew as my bump got larger. I improved upon that design by creating the perfect base layer. The pieces are all double-lined jersey, and are designed to stretch with all of the changes your body goes through. From the original catsuit, we’ve since incorporated separates: dresses, skirts, bodysuits, and shapewear.”

The versatility that Bumpsuit offers almost instantly attracted a celeb following. By keeping the silhouettes simple and focusing on the durability of the material, the brand’s pieces allow women to let their own personal styles shine through. Hosk, for example, wore a white bodysuit under a roomy cream sweater that she paired with chunky sneakers and Bottega Veneta’s Mini Jodie bag. Bronfman donned a bicycle-short version with a green jacket and Chanel slides. Rhoda added a leather belt with a large square buckle. And Ratajkowski simply wore the white dress solo.

“I think women have become fans of the brand because it makes life easier,” Trunfio says. “It is a maternity blank slate—incredibly comfortable, supportive, and takes the stress out of getting dressed. I love to say that all you need during pregnancy is a Bumpsuit a day.”
