There’s yet another reason to make Courchevel your skiing destination of choice this season: Chanel has taken up temporary residence in the beautiful French resort.
The newly opened two-floor boutique features a sophisticated design scheme inspired by Korea, with geometric furniture that mirrors the shapes seen in the 2015/16 Chanel cruise collection, shown in Seoul last May. Large metallic structures and transparent green screens punctuate the open-plan space, and the juxtaposition of hard and soft materials – from metal, concrete and wood to swathes of tulle – creates a playful feel. In the basement, a series of round and lozenge-shaped mirrors painted pink call to mind the diamond quilting of Chanel’s famous bags.
The ground floor houses Chanel’s ready-to-wear cruise collection alongside watches, jewellery and small leather goods – the latter presented artfully inside perforated metal units – as well as high jewellery (exhibited exclusively at the Courchevel boutique between 31 December and 11 January). Downstairs, dusky-pink lacquered-wood shelves display accessories including handbags, shoes, clutches and minaudières.
