Chanel Unveils Its Métiers d’art 2021/22 Show In Paris

The Chanel Métiers d’art 2021/22 show exemplified the importance of preserving the exceptional savoir-faire of the artisans from the 8 Maisons d’Art—namely, the embroiderers Lesage, the feather worker Maison Lemarié, the goldsmith Goossens Paris, and more—all housed within the immense le19M complex where the collection was also showcased.
Virginie Viard showed a lavish collection centered on the maison's signature tweeds and luxe knitwear, with intricate embroidery in playful and rebellious motifs like the brand logo in graffiti style, splashed across the front of a jacket in countless glittering sequins, and classic Chanel bangles translated into applique on the sleeves of a cardigan.

Elaborating on this Métiers d’Art showing, Virginie Viard, Artistic Director of the Fashion collections, explains that she “wanted to illustrate each (Maison d’Art) as best as possible, but with a twist,” to present a “very metropolitan yet sophisticated” collection that elevates Chanel’s house codes with a modern reinterpretation.
Beyond a showcase of the diverse artistry of the ateliers, there is an undercurrent of ease and coolness in the collection that made us want to take the pieces right off the runway and saunter into the Parisian night.
