Today in brilliant things: Cher is the newest icon to star in a Marc Jacobs campaign. Photographed by none other than David Sims, the ad shows the 69-year-old music legend wearing a floor-length black dress with matching gloves, all against the bold red background evoking the Diana Vreeland-inspired set design from Jacobs’ show. Her hair is wonderfully frizzed out, giving her a witchy, electrocuted look we want to emulate.
The casting makes sense—Marc Jacobs brought Cher as his surprise date to this year’s Met Gala, dressing her in a plunging, sequined getup with a high-slit that was very audacious, or, to put it simply, Cher. We should have known the designer and the raven-haired beauty had some sort of secret in store for us, but this is a wonderful surprise. Well played, Marc, well played.
