Update, 04/02: Gucci has announced that its Cruise 2017 collection will be showcased in London on 2 June. Alessandro Michele, Gucci's creative director, has set his sights on the Cloisters at Westminster Abbey as the setting for what is sure to be a spectacular runway affair. This will be the first time that a runway show will be held in the halls of this historic church—though Westminster Abbey is no stranger to grand events with its long-standing tradition of being the location of choice for British royal weddings.
Having last seen Westminster Abbey decked up in 2011 for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding of epic proportions, we're beyond excited to see what Gucci has in store for us come June 2016.
Original, 13/11: Gucci has confirmed that it is headed to London for its cruise 2017 show. The Italian brand has set the location for its show, but a specific venue and date have yet to be announced. Creative director Alessandro Michele hinted at London as a highly possible venue when he gave an interview to leading UK newspaper The Sunday Times. "I love English people, because they are the most quirky people in the world. They don't care," Michele said.
In many ways it seems to be a perfect fit: Michele is undoubtedly the champion of the vintage-inspired, bric-a-brac mash-up look at Gucci (something he has carried over into both men's and women's collections) and London is one of the the greatest hotbeds of creativity and history in the civilised world. After the brand's resort show in New York, you know you can count on Gucci putting up a very good show, old sport.
