Dior Launches Podcast Celebrating The Inspiring Women Who Shaped The Life Of The Legendary Designer
Hosted by former Harper's BAZAAR UK editor-in-chief Justine Picardie
Dior is answering our call for more stimulating cultural entertainment during this period of lockdown by releasing a series of podcasts celebrating the women who inspired and nurtured the fashion house's legendary founder.
The series of four episodes - titled Mes Chéries: The Women of Christian Dior - features former Harper's BAZAAR editor-in-chief Justine Picardie in conversation with Oriole Cullen, curator of modern textiles and fashion at the V&A Museum. The four episodes were recorded at the famed London museum, which played host to the record-breaking Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition last year.
Among the women discussed on the podcast are Madeleine Dior, the designer's mother – with whom he shared an unfailing fascination for gardens and roses – and Catherine Dior, his sister, an immensely courageous heroine whose nickname, Miss Dior, became associated with one of the brand's most successful and well-loved fragrances.
Picardie and Cullen also discuss the life and career of Mitzah Bricard, one of Dior's closest creative collaborators and muses, known for her grace and elegance; and Carmel Snow, who was editor-in-chief of American Harper's BAZAAR from 1934 to 1958, and responsible for famously dubbing his revolutionary first collection, 'The New Look'.
Dior has also provided further - more visual - lockdown entertainment by re-releasing a documentary exploring the couturier's life and work, featuring archive footage from inside his atelier in 1949.
Directed by Henri A Lavorel, the film Haute-Couture sees Dior and his team prep for the house's autumn/winter 1949 couture collection. The footage takes viewers behind the scenes at the iconic 30 Avenue Montaigne atelier, where the collection is coming to fruition.
The French fashion house also re-released an extensive virtual tour of the sell-out Designer of Dreams exhibition, from when it was staged at its original location at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Whether you missed it the first time around (in Paris or in London), or simply want to revisit the beautiful displays, watch below:
