Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana presented their latest Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda collection (the design duo’s answer to haute couture) at La Scala in Milan earlier this month. The hour-long, opera-inspired show was made up of 12 mini collections, each themed around a different opera, and featured over 150 extravagant looks.
Of the operas they chose to include, the designers said “we have always loved the Opera and its heroines: Tosca, Aida, Violetta, Odabella, Giulietta, Madama Butterfly, Santuzza, Gilda, Norma, Rosina, Turandot and Elisabetta all embody, each through their own passions, their own strength and fragility, our ideal of what it means to be a woman. Whether shy or resolute, combative or submissive, they enchant us every time they take the stage, because they represent a timeless dream where sentiment always triumphs. And just as these extraordinary female characters have never ceased to fascinate audiences all over the world, so will our Alta Moda women continue to inspire others to dream. And thanks to our unique creations, they can themselves become the unforgettable protagonists of a unique Opera”.
