Watch out Mansur Gavriel, there's a new player in town. News that a new bag label was about to hit the fashion surfaced a few months ago when Emma Hill, the ex-creative director of Mulberry who gave us such hits as the oh-so-covetable Alexa, announced her plans to roll out her own brand together with her business partner Georgia Fendley (coincidentally also a Mulberry alum). Today, Hill and Fendley reveal more info about their upcoming launch to Business of Fashion, and here's what we gleaned from the interview.
1. Net-a-porter's already a big supporter
According to BoF, the pair have already "sold a significant quantity to Net-a-Porter" based off the merit of their sketches of the bags alone.
2. We could be expecting the arrival of the next It bag
If the Alexa is anything to go by, we're putting our money on Hill's creative abilities to bring us our next lust-after bag. "I am fascinated with proportion — little bags with big hardware and vice versa. I like things that are a little bit chubby," Hill revealed in the interview.
3. Unpractical and purely decorative? Definitely not.
Hill & Friends will be "practical, carefully-considered, functional bags, which are desirable, luxurious and refined — with a subversive wink!" says Fendley.
4. It will be proudly made in England.
Hill specifically sourced for leatherworkers in her home country and finally settled on Somerset county in England's West Country. Its claim to fame is a deep heritage of crafting leather, which Hill claims can rival that of Italy's.
5. Fans will be able to literally buy the bags on the spot.
Fresh off the presentation at London Fashion Week, fans will be able to buy small quantities of pieces they love directly from Net-a-Porter, which will be stocked with a limited run of their products.
While we still swear by our Prada and Gucci, this is one label that we'll definitely be keeping an eye on come September.
