Emma Stone was the vision of a golden screen siren in her shimmering 1920s style flapper dress at the Oscars on Sunday night.

The gown was a fitting tribute to the old Hollywood glamour that the Oscar-winning actress's musical La La Land pays homage to, and now the star's stylist has revealed just what went into making the custom-made "beaded wonder".

Petra Flannery told People magazine that it took a team of 11 and 1,700 hours to create the dress which was designed by Riccardo Tisci, his last couture gown for Givenchy since leaving the French fashion house last month.

"The entire dress was hand beaded onto lace," Petra told People. "It took over 1,700 hours and a team of 11 from the Givenchy Atelier. It's a beaded wonder. When you see it up close it's a marvel of various golden colors, shapes and sizes."

Flannery also revealed that Stone loved the dress as soon as she saw the sketches, disclosing: "The beaded fringe was the clincher."

The star had initially envisioned the dress in silver, but was swayed by the gold as it was so complimentary to her fair skin and auburn hair, according to Flannery.

"During a trip to Paris earlier in the year we saw the beading samples and we selected the beautiful gold, amber and crystal colors," the stylist recalled.

"I was very inspired by La La Land. The element of dancing, movement and Hollywood glamour definitely got to me. Both Emma and I wanted to capture this feeling in the dress."
