At Monday night’s Met Gala, no one could stop talking about Emma Watson’s outfit, and not just because she’s doing that odd thing where she wears a skirt over pants again. Her look featured an off-the-shoulder black and white bustier and tailored black pants fastened to a long train. Oh, and it’s a gown — created by Calvin Klein and Eco Age — that’s actually made from RECYCLED PLASTIC BOTTLES.
“Plastic is one of the biggest pollutants on the planet,” Watson wrote in a Facebook post explaining her look.”Being able to repurpose this waste and incorporate it into my gown for the #MetGala proves the power that creativity, technology and fashion can have by working together.”
Every part of the gown is environmentally friendly,” she explained. “The zippers were made from recycled materials, the bustier was woven from organic cotton, and the organic silk in the lining was crafted “to the highest environmental standards.” Not only is the gown made from repurposed materials, Emma Watson conceived it so that she would be able to recycle the dress itself.
“It is my intention to repurpose elements of the gown for future use. The trousers can be worn on their own, as can the bustier, and the train can be used for a future red carpet look.” OK, that just about justifies the pants, then. And hey, if you listen closely, you can hear Leonardo DiCaprio climax right now.
