Blackpink has made history yet again, this time with Lisa becoming the first-ever personality and the first K-pop star to represent Celine as a global ambassador. Since joining the Celine club, Lisa has been spotted in the brand’s outfits of refined simplicity — be it in music videos, as part of her airport looks or on Instagram.
The chic rapper got photographers and social media in a state of frenzy when she made an appearance at Celine’s Spring/ Summer 2020 show; she was also the face of the house’s Essentials campaign in June, shot by Hedi Slimane himself.
In this BAZAAR exclusive, the starlet shares her thoughts on being named Celine’s ambassador, her appreciation for the brand, and her personal style.

When you wear Celine, what is going through your head — how does it make you feel?
First and foremost, Celine clothes are just so comfortable. Honestly, they fit me so well that I rarely need any size adjustments or custom tailoring! Everything fits perfectly. Admittedly, they fit so well that sometimes, I feel like I’m walking on the Celine runway.
What are your preferred shapes and silhouettes from Celine, and why?
To me, the knee-length flared skirts, bootcut denim pants, and silky bow-collar shirts are now Celine’s signature pieces.

The jeans, in particular, make my legs look long and I wear them quite often.

Flare skirts are a wardrobe classic, and I don’t think it’ll ever go out of style.

And bow-collar shirts are among my favorite items because they are versatile. If you untie the bow, the entire style changes, but the look is still chic.
What does it mean to you to be named an ambassador for Celine?
It means so much to me to become Celine’s first ambassador. I’m so excited and honored to receive this partnership, and to work with Hedi Slimane. Celine has always inspired me, and I hope to be able to take that feeling and, in turn, inspire others.
When did you first discover Celine? What was the first Celine piece you bought? What was your first Celine fashion show?
I first discovered Celine when I was about 15 years old, through my cousin, who was into fashion. The first item that I bought was the “Belt Bag.” It is still one of my favorite pieces to this day, and I remember carrying it to BLACKPINK’s debut stage performance. As for my first Celine fashion show, it was the recent Spring 2020 menswear collection, in Paris.
What do you find to be most engaging and/ or unique about Hedi Slimane’s designs?
Hedi’s designs may look simple, but I think they’re also very clever and dynamic. I rarely need to add any additional accessories because the look itself makes a strong impression all on its own. Hedi’s strength is that his creativity is both elegant and charismatic. The effect is high-fashion and wearable, at the same time.

What do you find to be most engaging and/ or unique about Hedi Slimane’s photography?
I love Hedi’s black-and-white portraiture. His photography feels rhythmic. I almost think his imagery typifies rock-and-roll music. If rock-and-roll was a strictly visual medium, Hedi’s photos would be definitive. His subjects feel alive and raw. I really love this element of his work.
How would you describe your personal style? Do you have any style rules?
I am into comfortable outfits and easygoing style. For example, an oversize jacket paired with a t-shirt, denim pants, and a mini-size bag is often my day-to-day look. Recently, I combined a Celine jacket by wearing it over a vest. The layering felt classic, but it gave off a bit of a new mood. This is another thing I like about Celine. You can mix Hedi’s pieces to create an entirely different stylistic outfit, from day to night.
What are your top 3 favorites from Celine’s current collection, and why?

I’ve always wanted to own a fur maxi-coat. I’m going to try it out this fall and winter season.

I’m pretty sure I’ve never worn a colorful layered-and-flared skirt This piece is one of the items that I definitely want to try out over the next few months.

I love the ruffle details and glitter texture of this dress. In fact, I wore this design in our “How You Like That” music video! Everything about the dress is perfect, to me. It’s a 10 out of 10.
What about your favorite bags from the current collection?

Photo: Courtesy
I love this bag because it’s a classic piece, both sturdy and timelessly chic. Celine kindly engraved my initials on this bag and gave it to me as a gift a while back. It was a such a kind gesture, and I am so thankful!

This bag is so, so chic. Snakeskin and gold hardware: this combination speaks for itself!
Were there any memorable interactions or highlights from the Celine show you attended last year?
I remember the rush of the lights turning on and the models beginning their laps on beat with the music. I was so concentrated on the show that I forgot to take pictures. In some ways, it almost felt like I was the one performing—it was nearly the same amount of excitement that I feel when I am on stage! The show really was memorable. I honestly couldn’t stop thinking about it.
What is your favourite thing to do in Paris? Do you have any secret spots or must-sees?
I love taking pictures, and Paris is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. I especially love to walk in the Trocadéro and Tuileries Gardens with my film cameras. Avenue Montaigne is also one of my favorite places in Paris, and I never forget to visit the Celine boutique when I’m there!
