MAXIMUM IMPACT

Lisa Aiken: “I think one of the most important fashion stories this Fall/Winter is the continuation of the maximalist movement. It’s going on for a few seasons now, and customers are also becoming more confident and playful with how they’re putting together and wearing their clothes. The big designers such as Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and Miuccia Prada are standing behind it, and they’ve also mastered that aesthetic.”

GAME PLAY

Aiken: “Another story I feel really strongly about this season is the idea of sports couture. I love defining trends that I hope to see women wear or they’re already wearing. That’s the genius behind this trend. We’re seeing it on the streets right now and it’s influencing the way women want to dress. It’s all about adding that single item to a look. One of the hero pieces is the puffer jacket. It’s just that throw-on that instantly makes an outfit your own.”

KNIT TRICK

Aiken: “Coming from a more commercial point of view, I think the fact that we’re seeing designers be more transitional and global in their thinking—in terms of speaking to customers from the Northen and Southern hemispheres—is really important. We saw some real standout knitwear. Missoni is a House that’s very true to what it stands for, and that’s always great. I love their sort-of space-dyed knits from the new season. Skinny ribbed knits are really flattering for women who take very good care of their bodies: Going for the lighter weight knits from Victoria Beckham is also a great move."

BLUE-EYED WONDER

Aiken: “Denim, it has to be denim. And just because it’s such a cornerstone of so many women’s wardrobe. Designers are really embracing the fabric and being a lot more interesting with the fabric. It’s such a fashion-forward look."
