Maria Grazia Chiuri's clothes have always had a fairytale quality to them. Despite the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic, she has not dialled down the romance and grandeur of her vision. ThisDior collection, titled Le Mythe Dior, marks the first major haute couture show of the season (and of the new normal) and is presented as a mini fantasy film directed by Matteo Garrone—complete with wood nymphs, mermaids and forest fairies. That fantastical context actually serves the collection, bringing out the classical charm of Chiuri's couture. Would the average woman in the real world and in these times relate to it? Perhaps not, but then couture has always been a dream laboratory and Chiuri definitely delivers on that front.
