1. String Theory
An element usually on sneakers or even corsets in the Victorian era, lace-up details are making their way into our wardrobes. Charming yet fully functional, lacing your fit lends a touch of nostalgia and romance to a classic silhouette. The notion of pulling and tightening laces and seeing your body stand taller, your figure clearly accentuated, and giving just a peek of skin—what’s there not to love?
2. Sprinkle the Sparkle
If you’re not wearing anything glistening at least once this December, you’re doing it wrong. And we’re not talking about lavish balls, or fancy events—it’s daytime sparkles we’re after! Take your cue from Miu Miu with a pair of embellished socks worn with a leather skirt and a tank top, or play with contrast a la Tory Burch where a sequin-and-knit mix creates a casual cool co-ord ensemble. Keep things fresh with contrasting textures, silhouettes and styles.
3. Food for Thought
It seems the worlds of fashion and pop culture have been on a collective grocery run, what with Pantone pushing out Mocha Mousse at the start of the year, Hailey Bieber going viral for her glazed doughnut nails, and big fashion houses such as Prada, Coach and Dior rolling out countless F&B establishments. And then there are plant-inspired accessories that are playful and cheeky, like Loewe’s odd-shaped heirloom tomato bag, the Moschino celery clutch, and Judith Leiber’s luxurious food-themed bags. Whether it’s a chilli motif to add a little spice and spunk, or a vegetable for a hint of quirk, or even a fruit for that instant dose of positivity, the fashion community is out to celebrate food in the funnest way possible. You should too.

4. House and Home
As the holiday season arrives, while some of us dream of a far-flung adventure or a white Christmas, there are those of us who simply find comfort in being at home, and for whom a sense of familiarity and warmth is as much of a luxury as an indulgent vacation. Wear that feeling on your sleeves in the form of home-themed outerwear for that cosy feeling, literally and figuratively; or take out Hermès’ chic and adorable Faubourg Birken for a sense of exclusivity, whimsy and polish.
5. Hips Don’t Lie
Once a dominant style of the noughties, the peplum is back; now with a more fashion-forward approach and cooler edge. Having shed its extremely feminine sensibilities, the flounces this season are more sculptural, intentional and sophisticated. While McQueen’s leather and denim jackets set a cool and casual tone for the silhouette, it was elegance and beauty at Erdem with its full wool set, cinched at the waist with a single brooch. On the street, fashionistas have also gotten in on the act, contrasting their peplums with more streamlined counterparts and bold accessories. Now, we wouldn’t mind a bit of extra volume around the hips.

6. Tea Party
The humble doilies, crocheted coasters and armchair cushions—visual design staples that dotted your grandmother’s dining room—have evolved way beyond the home and hearth and onto the frocks and accessories of fashion insiders. Nostalgic and refined, these hand-crocheted dresses, scarves and tops—highlighting the craft’s intricacy and origins—are a romantic homage to those halcyon days. Your grandma would be pleased.
7. Bejewelled Hair
More than just an add-on, hair accessories have risen the ranks to become an extension of a look; sometimes even the the star of the show. While a slick and minimalist hairdo can be enhanced with metal clips or slides for a cooler edge, colourful baubles add character and playfulness to an all-black fit when placed strategically in braided locks. Hair accessories can also give off an island girl vibe when worn with skimpy tops and beads. Turn heads by wearing your glitzy jewellery as hair adornments—just make sure to keep them secure for maximum impact.
8. Corset in Conversation
Historically worn by women as an undergarment for a shapely figure, corsets were once considered retrictive and controversial. Over the years, even as we gained ownership of our bodies and voices, fashion has had a love-hate relationship with the “cage-like” piece. In a shift in narrative, and a nod to Madonna in her iconic Jean Paul Gaultier number, the Maison Margiela spring/summer 2024 couture collection presented corsets for both genders; while Dior delved into the Victorian theme with a modern, athletic approach. To add to the conversation that the corset is no longer a symbol of restraint, fashion insiders have taken it to the streets by layering it over everyday staples, as an homage to glamour and opulence.

There’s something enchanting about capes and the way they make outfits look instantly striking and sometimes even powerful. It’s as if the wearer has a special ability of sorts—superhero, magician, mystical being. Take your cue from Louis Vuitton, which showed capes cinched at the waist by bumbags and topped off with a bucket hat for a mysterious wanderer vibe, or glam it up with a cape-dress that flows ever so smoothly with your every move.

14. Pins of Colours
It’s time to swap your black hosiery for something a whole lot bolder and louder: coloured tights. Once seen mainly on young children, bright tights are now part of eclectic, expressive ensembles.
