EIC Kenneth Goh’s Tips On Refreshing Your Denim Wardrobe

There's a reason why denim never seems to go out of fashion. It’s one of the most durable, practical and versatile fabrics that can be transformed into practically anything—from bags to jeans, and jackets to skirts.

Earlier today, Harper's BAZAAR Singapore Editor-in-Chief Kenneth Goh shared his expert sartorial tips on wearing denim in a contemporary cool manner with Angelique Teo on One FM 91.3.

1. Embellished Denim

You don’t have to stick to just denim jeans and a white t-shirt — although this classic combination is effortlessly chic and never goes out of style. Take your cues from James Dean in his white t-shirt and jeans or Cindy Crawford in her white tanktop and denim cut-offs.

If you want to dress up your denim, consider getting a jean jacket or even a dress that comes with floral embellishments or appliqués. It’s casual and chic at the same time — perfect for Sunday brunch with your best girlfriends.

2. Acid-Wash Jeans

An ‘80s favourite, acid-wash denims are back in a big way. Play up the rebellious attitude with a top-to-toe look like a boiler suit or overalls.

#Protip: When wearing a full denim look, red lips add a hint of sophistication and changes the look completely. Think dangerous streak like Angelina Jolie

3. Fitted Denim Jeans

When worn with a fitted blazer over a white shirt or t-shirt, fitted denim jeans make for an extremely sexy and stylish outfit that can take you from day to night easily — for both men and women. For women, some jewellery and an embellished clutch immediately add luxe to your ensemble.

#Protip: Darker and fitted jeans come across as dressier.

4. Denim On Denim

Who says you can’t pull off denim on denim? The trick is to not dress top to bottom in the same shade. Consider black and coloured ones such as grey, white, beige as alternatives to blue. They’re perfect if you’re after the ruggedness of denim, without the matchy-matchy look. This applies to both men and women.

5. Denim Midi-Skirt

The fashion industry’s obsession with the ‘90s and early 2000s has seen a resurgence of the denim skirt. A perfect transitional number, the midi-length denim skirt in a dark shade is super versatile. Wear it with a soft blouse and a pair of sexy stilettos or pair it with a thin sweater and boots for a night out with the girls.
