Held inside the Osservatorio, Prada’s new exhibition space within the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Italian brand’s latest resort 2018 collection witnessed the return of many design tropes familiar to Miuccia Prada. The influential fashion designer launched the show with a series of looks constructed from black nylon, then segued those into frothy dresses that came either pleated, embellished with crystals or cinched lower at the waist with wraps. The Oriental-inspired two-piece samfoo also made a comeback, once again bedecked with feathers or decorated with chain mail-like detailing cascading down from the collar. Those familiar with Prada’s history will instantly recognise the illustrations by James Jean — the artist famously collaborated with Prada for her spring/summer 2008 ‘Trembled Blossom” collection – that ran down the front of sporty zip jackets and all over the bags.
