This afternoon, Kanye West debuted his highly-anticipated fifth Yeezy collection at NYFW. The rapper-turned-designer went with tradition, casting fairly unknown models for the presentation, but a few individuals stood out on the runway. One of them was 19-year-old Halima Aden, who made her runway debut and caught attention — and praise — for wearing a hijab on the catwalk.

People who viewed the collection through livestreams and social media celebrated the Somali-American model’s appearance. Some also applauded West for including her in the casting.

Aden, who was born in a Kenyan refugee camp, was previously under the spotlight in November as a contestant for Miss Minnesota USA (she proudly wore a burkini during the swimsuit segment).

Keep your eyes peeled for the model to make more appearances in the near future, now that she’s signed with IMG Models. Her first major magazine appearance is in the March issue of CR Fashion Book. Check out a sneak peek below.
