David Koma is right at home chez Mugler. The brash optimism, sharp tailoring and undercurrent of fun even on the most severe of black leather trenches (thanks, peak shoulder) are all hallmarks of Mugler.
For fall, Koma looked to the constellations, turning star patterns into glam optics and cut-outs on body skimming trousers, mini skirts and tops. Star Trek fans will delight in the yellow top with a star insignia – beam us up, Captain Koma!
As out of this world as it may sound like, the collection was packed with wearability. Sweaters that hinted at the strong shoulder Koma worked elsewhere, well-cut trousers in grey, navy and black, some with a contrasting stripe, and evening suits make from lamé.
The star motif works for both the brave and the not so extroverted. A navy halter jumpsuit with the star spikes cut into the bodice was positively Ziggy Stardust, while a mini sheath paired with patent brogues was more subdued.
It all played nicely into Koma’s vision for a more glamorous way of dressing. Lamé plissé pleats in silver, green or blue peeked through under the folds of long gowns for night and tailored wool looks for day.
