French Fashion Designer Pierre Cardin Dies At 98

"We are all proud of his tenacious ambition and the daring he has shown throughout his life," his family said in a statement.

French designer Pierre Cardin has died at the age of 98, according to a statement released by France's Fine Arts Academy on Twitter. 

Born in Italy in 1922, Cardin worked his way up at couture houses such as Christian Dior before launching his own brand n 1950 and became known for his Space Age collections and avant-garde style. Soon after, he started dressing dressing celebrities like Lauren Bacall and The Beatles.

His family told Agence France-Presse he died in a hospital in Neuilly in the west of Paris.

The official Pierre Cardin Instagram account shared a quote from the legendary designer: "I have always worked in my own style, which is different from all others. It was always my intention to be different, because that is the only way to last."
