Matthew Williams honed his craft outfitting musicians for the stage, so he knows a thing or two about commanding attention. His debut Givenchy runway show took place in a darkened, cavernous arena and yet, his models had no problems standing out. The collection itself is a masterful exploration of proportions—dramatically blown up here, stripped down to almost nothingness there. The accessories are the kind that will set social media ablaze with memes and likes—think horned balaclavas, big furry gloves and chunky padlock necklaces. But the star of the show is undoubtedly the shoes, which embody an electrifying contrast—organic and biomorphic on one hand, synthetic and sculptural on the other. The woman who walks in them will look utterly formidable.
