Few things in life are as classic yet contemporary like luxury fashion house, Gucci. From the modern reinterpretation of their classic women’s bags in their Summer collection to the creative conflation of pagan and youth culture in their Pre-Fall collection, there’s nothing quite like Gucci on the market today. They’re also one of the few heritage brands, that we know and love, that’s been able to successfully combine their timeless heritage classics with 21st century tastebuds—and we love it. Their Towards Summer and Pre-Fall collection are perfect examples of this.
In their Towards Summer collection, the brand’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, has reimagined the timeless GG Marmont, Ophidia, Sylvie and Rajah lines as more relaxed and summery. All of which feature distinctive Gucci hardware and decorations. The restyled bags exude a spirit of easy, warm- weather cheekiness, which anyone who’s a longstanding customer of theirs, would love.
The Gucci Zumi bag in tan leather exudes a timeless elegance that make for a great staple accessory. The structure and opulence of this bag is a masterful fusion of architecture and glamour in fashion. Its feature include polished hardware, which combines the brand’s signature “GG”, horse bit hardware, sturdy top handles and an optional shoulder strap. You’ll also be delighted to know that the inside of the bag is decked out with compartments and zipped pockets, so all of your belongings can be kept neatly.
Did you know that the Gucci Arli bag is actually named after the city of Arles in France? It’s where the brand debuted their Resort 2019 show at the historic Promenade des Alyscamps. This red and black colour way is our favourite because it makes the iconic gold ‘GG’ stand out. It comprise two interior compartments which are perfect to fitting your essentials for brunch with the girls.
The Gucci ‘GG Marmont‘ is made in Italy from luxurious quilted leather in a variety of colour ways, so there’s something for everyone. This particular hue makes it a versatile piece that’s easy to match with a plethora of outfit combinations (read: worthwhile investment). The inside of the bag features a gorgeous suede-lined interior completed with zipped and slit pockets. The top handle and detachable strap adds to the bags versatility—you can carry it in the nook of your arm, cross-body or sling it over your shoulder. Should you be on the hunt for something a little more vacation appropriate, the GG Marmont also comes in crochet raffia with a cute floral pattern.
One of the most striking aspects of the Dionysus bag is its textured tiger head closure, a unique detail referencing the Greek god Dionysus, who in myth is said to have crossed the river Tigris on a tiger sent to him by Zeus. The sliding chain strap can be worn multiple ways, changing between a shoulder and a top handle bag.
The latest instalment of the Ophidia bag feature Gucci’s epochal green-red-green web stripe, a blend of straw matt with snakeskin trim and luxurious gold tone metal straps.
Ever elegant and functional, the Sylvie bag combines wits straw matt wicker body with a leather (pictured above) or a croco flap. It’s additional leather strap functions as a top-handle and also allows you carry it as a cross-body bag.
If you’re all about that vintage, you’ll love the Rajah line. Which comprise natural canvas with cognac-coloured leather trim, the green-red-green web strip and tiger’s head. Other items in this line consist a belt bag, shoulder bag, tote bag, camera case, belted smartphone case, duffle, backpack and two pouches.
Gucci’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection on the other hand, is the epitome of boho-chic. The campaign film, by Glen Luchford, was shot among the ruins of the temples of the Selinunte Archaeological Park in Sicily, Italy. Which lends whimsy, nostalgia and ironically, a sense of camp to the film.
The collection itself is a creative discourse with antique worlds and contemporary youth culture. Michele reimagines the once home of pagan culture, as a mythical place suspended in time were diversity flourishes in harmony. His contemporary creation of freedom and expression where the antique becomes a catalyst for the present. And the inclusion of contemporary youth cults in the middle of the ruins speak to a surreal and fantasy world, which is also echoed in the collection, especially in the shoes.
