NewJeans' Hanni, Halle Bailey And A New Era At Gucci

The new Gucci universe is young and bold.

Sabato De Sarno ushered in a new era for Gucci with Gucci Ancora, and it was a tale of joy, life, passion, humanity and, of course, glamour.

De Sarno's highly anticipated debut collection feels strangely familiar—not in the sense that the spring/summer 2024 offering echoed what his predecessors had been known for, but more in the fact that the looks remind us of what lies in the wardrobes of young and stylish women today.

"Young" is a very important word here. Just look at the front-row A-listers: from the 18-year-old Hanni from NewJeans to Bad Bunny, Kendall Jenner and Troye Sivan, there’s a clear intention from De Sarno to carve his own niche with the younger crowd.

In fact, De Sarno's debut was originally planned for a showing on the streets of Brera, a popular neighbourhood among young adults in Milan. However, bad weather meant the show had to be moved to the Gucci Hub on the outskirts of the city instead. An unfortunate turn of events, because the short shorts and tank tops with flatform loafers that came down the runway would have felt right at home when hitting the pavement.

Marching to the beat of a custom soundtrack by Music Director Mark Ronson, models sported chambray shirts and pencil skirts that looked like elevated everyday wear, not to mention the monogrammed playsuits and sweaters. All of which, along with De Sarno’s riff of the Gucci Jackie bag, will hopefully be enough to retain the attention spans of the younger generation. All in all, it was a great starting point, and we can’t wait to see what else De Sarno has up his sleeve.
