Gone are the days when Hollywood starlets simply wear the looks they love. During New York Magazine’s second-annual Vulture Festival last weekend, Hollywood stylist Jessica Paster revealed celebrities are paid up to $250,000 (approximately SGD $336, 510) to wear specific designers on the red carpet. “If it looks awful on you, $100,000 or $250,000 is not worth it,” she said. “But if it looks gorgeous and this is the dress you were going to pick anyway, why not get paid?”

Besides benefiting from the extra cash, celebs are more likely to secure potential campaigns if they know how to rock the look. As for the designers, the publicity drives in sales. The deal can allow stylists to earn anywhere from $30,000-$50,000. However, no official contract is written up, so if the celeb changes her mind at the last minute, no one gets paid. “It’s all wrapped up in money,” says stylist Brandon Maxwell. “It’s Hollywood, we’re not at church!”
