Hermès' Pre-Fall 2017 Collection Is A Wonderful Mix Of Juxtapositions
Luxury and comfort found equal placing in the French luxury brand's new collection
Presented at its Parisian flagship, the Rue St. Honore Faubourg store, Hermès' pre-fall 2017 collection was an homage to the French luxury label's history. Fine calfskin parkas with large pockets evoked images of a stable manager (albeit a chic one, of course), punctuated with pieces covered in crops, whips, flasks and tartan patterns. The collection emphasised long silhouettes draped in cozy textures such as knit and wool, creating the idea of being blanketed at the cold Highlands. Similarly, the house's signature luxurious silks also took centre stage in reworked motifs from the Beta print by artist Nathalie du Pasquier, as well as checks inspired by a drawing by Nigel Peake. This idea of luxurious comfort was juxtaposed against the house's preference for simplicity: Clean lines and classic pieces, such as the black crocodile coat, created a perfect balance of ideas within the collection.
